Maximise your IELTS Speaking Test Score

As many of you may know, IELTS is an English language test for study, migration or work.  IELTS is accepted by more than 11,000 employers, universities, schools and immigration bodies around the world.

There are two versions of the IELTS test; IELTS Academic, which is needed for admission by non-native English enrollees into English-speaking universities or professional institutes, and IELTS General Training for migration or work purposes.  In both versions of IELTS, there are four sections of the exam: Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening.

The IELTS Speaking part is a face-to-face informal discussion with an IELTS examiner, and is exactly the same for both the Academic and General Training IELTS exams.  Normally, it’s taken on a separate day to the Reading, Writing and Listening. This gives you an opportunity to prepare well for your test day!  It might be a short test at only 15 minutes (approximately), but quick does not mean easy!  It requires concentration, creativity, and strong English skills to be able to answer the interviewer’s questions quickly.  Therefore, you need to prepare well to score high.

Remember, for IELTS Speaking, you will be assessed on 4 criteria and each are scored from 0 to 9:

Fluency and Cohesion (fluent, logical speech without hesitation)
Pronunciation (words spoken clearly)
Lexical Resource (accurate and good range of vocabulary)
Grammatical Range and Accuracy (avoidance of grammar mistakes)
